RSS Calls for Monitoring and Regulation of OTT Content

New Delhi: The RSS has called for monitoring the content available on OTT platforms in the country. Media reports say an informal committee has been formed to prepare guidelines for the purpose.

The RSS has argued that OTT platforms are contributing to what it describes as "cultural pollution", which it claims is affecting families and the younger generation. According to the reports, the group was formed a few months ago and held its first meeting early last month.

The committee reportedly includes former vice-chancellors and RSS functionaries working in the education and cultural sectors. The RSS has called for a mechanism similar to a censor board to regulate content on OTT platforms.

The group plans to hold further consultations with legal experts before preparing recommendations and submitting them to the Union Ministry of Culture and other relevant authorities, according to the reports.

OTT content in India is currently governed by regulations including the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021.

RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat has previously criticised certain content on OTT platforms, alleging that it contributes to "moral degradation" and calling for legal regulation of such content.
