Doctor Declines Government Job After Nitish Kumar Hijab Incident in Bihar

Patna: The female doctor whose hijab was pulled down by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar during a government function has decided not to join her job, citing humiliation. Her brother told the media that although she received her appointment letter on the 20th of this month, she has chosen not to enter government service due to the emotional distress caused by the incident. He added that the family is trying to console her and persuade her to reconsider the decision.

The incident took place on December 15 in Patna during a ceremony to distribute appointment letters to AYUSH doctors. Video footage of the incident has since gone viral. The program was held at the Chief Minister’s official residence. As the hijab-wearing doctor stepped forward to receive her appointment letter, Nitish Kumar first gestured for her to remove her hijab. Before she could respond, he was seen pulling it down himself.

The incident has triggered widespread protests from opposition parties. Sharing the video, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) questioned whether the Chief Minister’s mental state had completely deteriorated or whether he had become “100 percent Sanghi.” RJD spokesperson Ijaz Ahmed said the incident exposed the attitude of the JD(U) and BJP towards women.

Shiv Sena described the incident as condemnable, while the Congress demanded Nitish Kumar’s resignation over the incident.
