400 Families Quit TMC, Join CPI(M) Fold in Murshidabad's Domkal Constituency

Kolkata: Around 400 families from the Domkal assembly constituency in Murshidabad district have broken away from the Trinamool Congress and declared their support for the CPI(M), in a significant pre-poll boost for the Left Front as West Bengal's assembly election campaign gathers momentum.

The defection was led by Inamul Malita, a former Trinamool Congress councillor, who announced the decision at a meeting held in the presence of CPI(M)'s Domkal constituency candidate Mustafizur Rahman. The departing workers were given a rousing reception by CPI(M) supporters as they formalised their shift in political allegiance. In a symbolic gesture, the local Trinamool Congress party office was also handed over to the CPI(M).

Speaking to mediapersons after the meeting, Malita said the group had joined the CPI(M) to strengthen its fight against the misrule of the Mamata Banerjee government. He added that people who had lost faith in the TMC were voluntarily turning to the CPI(M).

CPI(M) candidate Mustafizur Rahman said the development made clear that the people of Domkal no longer stood with the Trinamool Congress, and that genuine development — not the TMC's brand of governance — was what voters in the region were seeking.

The Domkal defections are not isolated. Earlier, several individuals from North Bengal and Purulia had also quit the TMC and aligned themselves with the CPI(M), pointing to a pattern of attrition for the ruling party in the run-up to the polls.
