Mumbai: A Maharashtra court has granted bail to a Malayali priest and his team who were arrested on allegations of forced religious conversion. The Varud Sessions Court approved bail for 11 individuals, including Father J L Sudheer of the CSI Church’s Nagpur–Amravati Mission.
The incident occurred around 8 pm last Tuesday, when Father Sudheer, his wife Jasmine, and their associates were taken into police custody following a complaint alleging attempts at forced religious conversion.
Father Sudheer, a native of Amaravila in Neyyattinkara, Thiruvananthapuram, has been serving at the Amravati Mission for the past six years.
The CSI Church stated that the police action was based on false allegations raised during routine prayer meetings.
