Panaji: The owners of the Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub, Gaurav Luthra and Saurabh Luthra, who had been absconding in Thailand in connection with a fire that claimed 25 lives in Goa, have been brought back to India.

The Goa Police are questioning the two in connection with the fire that broke out at the nightclub in Arpora in North Goa. They were taken to the Anjuna Police Station for interrogation.

The Luthra brothers were arrested by the police on Tuesday, soon after they landed in Delhi following their deportation from Thailand. A Goa court granted the Goa Police two days of transit remand.

The duo had fled to Phuket, Thailand, in the early hours of December 7, just hours after the fire broke out at the nightclub. Their escape led to the issuance of an Interpol Blue Corner Notice and the cancellation of their passports.

Acting on a request from the Indian government, Thai authorities detained them in Phuket on December 11 and subsequently deported them to India. Earlier, the Goa Police had arrested five managers and staff members in connection with the nightclub fire incident.
