Monsoon Session Ends as Lok Sabha Adjourned Sine Die; Opposition Slams Amit Shah’s Silence

New Delhi: The Lok Sabha was adjourned sine die following the conclusion of the Monsoon Session. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who had stayed away from the House fearing questions over the violence against students during the student protests, appeared in the Lok Sabha today. Outside Parliament, Shah had claimed that he was ready to answer any question from the Opposition. However, he continued to remain silent without providing answers. Shah had not attended either House since the Monsoon Session began on July 20.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also attended the House. The proceedings concluded with the singing of Vande Mataram.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla asked members to stand while Vande Mataram was sung. After the song was completed, the Speaker announced that the House had been adjourned sine die.

Shah had written to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, expressing his willingness to discuss the violence against students at Jantar Mantar. However, Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi responded that nobody was interested in listening to Shah’s speech and that the Opposition wanted clear answers.

The Monsoon Session of Parliament began on July 20. The Opposition mainly raised the NEET question paper leak, the student protests and the alleged donation scam involving the Ram temple in Ayodhya. However, the Centre failed to provide clear answers to these issues.

The Opposition had demanded that these matters be discussed in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah. However, both leaders had stayed away from the House instead of answering the questions.

Meanwhile, discussions on various issues are continuing in the Rajya Sabha.
