Left Parties Hold March to Chief Election Commission's Office; CPI (M) Gen Secretary M A Baby Arrested

New Delhi: Left parties held a march near the Election Commission office in Delhi demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The police stopped the march.

Senior leaders were dragged away by central forces and the police despite the march being held peacefully. CPI(M) General Secretary M A Baby, Politburo members B V Raghavulu and R Arun Kumar, senior leader Brinda Karat, Subhashini Ali, MPs V Sivadasan and A A Rahim, and Delhi state secretary Anurag Saxena were allegedly dragged away by the police. They were subsequently arrested and removed from the site.

The demonstration was organised as part of mounting protest against Chief election commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over allegations concerning the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and other controversial decisions taken by the Election Commission. It was earlier reported that two members of the three member election commission raised objections against teh implementation of several controversial decisions by the CEC unilaterally.
