Srinagar: The Indian Army on Saturday neutralised two unidentified terrorists in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir during an operation along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Keran sector. The action followed intelligence reports indicating suspicious movement along the heavily monitored border.
According to the Army’s Chinar Corps, the operation was launched on November 7 after security agencies received inputs regarding a potential infiltration. Alert troops challenged the intruders, prompting them to open indiscriminate fire. “Contact was established, and the terrorists were trapped. The operation continues,” the Corps posted on X.

Security officials said infiltration attempts along the LoC have risen significantly this year following Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7 in response to the April 24 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 25 tourists and a local resident. Several groups are believed to have attempted cross-border incursions before winter snowfall blocks traditional routes.

Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir police conducted simultaneous raids in two jails early on Saturday in connection with alleged terror-linked activities. The Central Jail, Srinagar, and District Jail, Kupwara, were searched by the Counter Intelligence Wing with support from paramilitary contingents. Sources said intelligence agencies have been monitoring suspicious activity inside prisons.
Kulgam district police also searched multiple houses linked to individuals with alleged connections to terrorist groups operating from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). Some of the houses belonged to relatives of persons who had crossed the LoC years ago and joined terror outfits in PoK. Police described the operation as a major step in dismantling the ecosystem of terror and subversive activities, and several persons have been charged.

Saturday’s military and police operations underscore the heightened security measures in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in Kupwara and Kulgam, as authorities continue to counter infiltration attempts and disrupt terror networks.
