New Delhi: In a shocking incident, Zubair Ahmed Bhat (30), a resident of Srinagar, died after allegedly being brutally beaten by Delhi Police in Lajpat Nagar. His last message to his sister reveals he was targeted for being Kashmiri and pleaded with her not to inform their mother about the assault.
According to Zubair’s final WhatsApp message, he was thrashed by police with rods, and his Aadhaar card was confiscated. He wrote that he was returning home the next day and urged his sister to keep the incident hidden from their mother. However, when he went back to retrieve his Aadhaar card, he was allegedly assaulted again. Shortly after returning home, he succumbed to his injuries at Safdarjung Hospital.
The incident has sparked outrage, with demands for an independent investigation into the alleged police brutality and growing concerns over the targeting of Kashmiris in the capital.
Civil rights groups and activists have condemned the incident, calling for accountability and justice. Protests are expected as questions arise over police conduct and the safety of minorities in Delhi.
