Kalaburagi: The CPI(M), SFI and DYFI staged protests in Karnataka demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and condemning police action in Delhi. As part of the agitation, protesters stopped a train at Kalaburagi railway station. Later, police arrested and removed several leaders, including SFI Central Committee member Y Sujatha.

A large police contingent had been deployed at the site ahead of the protest. Police attempted to prevent the protest by putting up barricades, but activists pushed past them, rushed onto the railway tracks and stopped the train.

“Do not assume that democratic protests can be suppressed. The agitation will continue with greater intensity until Gyanesh Kumar resigns. The country will not bow before police atrocities,” Sujatha said.

Marches and protests along similar lines are also under way in various parts of Karnataka.
