Doctor's Driver Examines Patients, Prescribes Medicines in His Absence at UP Government Hospital

Kanpur: A driver allegedly examined patients and prescribed medicines in place of a doctor at a government hospital in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. The incident came to light after a video of the driver attending to patients at the outpatient department (OP) surfaced on social media.

The incident took place at the Kanshi Ram Joint Hospital and Trauma Centre, where doctor Ramkesh had reportedly gone to court in connection with a case. During his absence, the driver examined patients who had come to the OP and wrote prescriptions.

The video shows the driver calling patients into the room, asking about their ailments and prescribing medicines. While writing the prescriptions, he can also be heard telling patients that some medicines were unavailable at the hospital and would have to be purchased from outside.

The video emerged around Wednesday afternoon, following which hospital authorities sought an explanation from the doctor.

Hospital Chief Medical Superintendent (CMS) Dr Piyush Mishra confirmed that an explanation had been sought from the doctor. Ramkesh has also acknowledged that the driver wrote prescriptions in his absence, according to reports.

The doctor said the patient who had come to the hospital was an acquaintance and that the driver had subsequently been removed from the hospital.
