New Delhi: Rajya Sabha MP John Brittas today called for a special repatriation package for Indian workers, including Malayalis, returning from the Gulf countries due to the ongoing conflict in West Asia. He pointed out that more than a crore Indians live and work in the Gulf, and the highest foreign remittance to India comes from this region. With many workers facing uncertain futures due to the tensions in the Middle East, Brittas emphasised the need for a support plan for their return and rehabilitation.

Brittas also urged both houses of Parliament to come together and take a firm stand against the American and Israeli presence in Iran, similar to the Vajpayee government's decision in 2003 to reject foreign occupation. He criticised Congress leader Shashi Tharoor for supporting India’s silence on the war and stressed that India, as a leader of the Non-Aligned Movement, should not remain neutral in such critical issues.
