Congress Must Act More Responsibly Within INDIA Alliance, Says MP John Brittas

New Delhi: CPI(M) Rajya Sabha MP John Brittas on Monday called on Congress to adopt a more responsible approach within the INDIA alliance, warning that the opposition coalition must undertake serious introspection if it is to remain an effective force against the BJP and RSS.
Speaking to mediapersons in Delhi after an INDIA bloc meeting, Brittas sharply criticised Congress's handling of its Tamil Nadu strategy, saying it was entirely wrong and had effectively pushed the DMK towards the margins of the alliance. He welcomed remarks made by Rahul Gandhi at the close of the meeting, and said there was a broad consensus that the INDIA bloc must hold regular meetings both inside and outside Parliament.
Brittas said all constituent parties had collectively decided that the struggle must now move to the streets. "The country is in grave danger. The INDIA bloc must come together and take to the streets to resist the BJP-RSS," he said, stressing that meetings must be held continuously and not merely on occasion.
With the alliance completing three years since its formation, Brittas called for honest self-reflection. "If we don't course-correct, the Centre will succeed in dismantling every institution," he warned.
The MP also noted that there was a strong view within the meeting that Congress must be willing to accord greater importance to dominant regional parties in their respective states. He pointed out that the ruling NDA alliance has a deliberate strategy of poaching leaders not just from the ruling side but from within the opposition itself, making unity within the alliance all the more critical.
