Srinagar: Flood-like conditions have emerged in Jammu and Kashmir following heavy rainfall, with river levels rising sharply and low-lying areas going under water. Continuous heavy rain in the Mendar area has completely disrupted life in several villages.

Floodwaters overflowed into homes and farmlands in Mendar, prompting authorities to evacuate residents. Around 25 people have been moved to safety from the affected areas.

Mendar Sub-District Magistrate Imran Rashid said heavy rain had created flood-like conditions across the sub-division. "Around 25 people have been rescued so far. Many agricultural fields have been submerged, and water has entered homes. The administration is closely monitoring the situation and has advised people to remain vigilant," he said.

The continuing rain has also heightened anxiety among residents. Authorities said surveillance has been stepped up in vulnerable areas and rescue and relief teams are on standby.
