New Delhi: In Indore, BJP’s showcase city, the actual scale of the disaster caused by toilet waste contaminating the drinking water supply appears to have been concealed. The Madhya Pradesh BJP government officially reports that eight people died in the incident. Yet, compensation of two lakh rupees each has been provided to the families of 18 victims. Government records also indicate that 18 people lost their lives, explaining why compensation was given to the same number of families, according to national media reports.

“There is no need to stir controversy over the death toll, and every death is tragic,” said Chief Minister Mohan Yadav. He added that authorities would make decisions in such cases according to established norms, and the official figures are reliable. Earlier, the Madhya Pradesh High Court had expressed strong dissatisfaction with the government’s handling of the Indore disaster.

Meanwhile, the Indore Collector’s visit to the RSS office has triggered a major controversy. Footage emerged showing the Collector seated alongside an RSS functionary. The opposition has accused Collector Shivam Sharma and the district administration of acting under RSS directives. The Collector has not yet responded to the allegations.
