Indian Student Shot Dead Near University of Toronto Scarborough Campus

New Delhi: An Indian student was shot dead near the Scarborough campus of the University of Toronto in Canada. The victim has been identified as Shivank Awasthi (20), a research student. He was found with gunshot wounds in the Highland Creek Trail area around 3.30 pm on Tuesday. Toronto Police confirmed that he died at the scene.
Police said they received a call at around 3.34 pm reporting an injured person near Highland Creek Trail and Old Kingston Road. When officers arrived, they found Shivank with gunshot injuries and confirmed his death on the spot. The suspects had fled the area before police reached the scene. Authorities have sought public assistance to identify the suspects and urged anyone with information to contact the police or Crime Stoppers.
The Consulate General of India in Toronto expressed deep sorrow over Shivank’s death. In a statement, the Consulate said it is in constant touch with the victim’s family and is coordinating with local authorities to provide all necessary assistance.
Shivank is the second Indian national to be killed in Toronto within a week. A few days earlier, the body of Himanshi Khurana (30), an Indian woman, was found at a residence in the city after she was reported missing. Police discovered her body on Saturday. In that case, a warrant for first-degree murder has been issued against her friend, Abdul Ghafoori (32). Police believe the two were in a close personal relationship and that personal disputes led to the killing.
