Kochi: The Southern Naval Command (SNC) has unveiled a series of events and outreach programmes for Navy Day 2025, which will be celebrated with national-level festivities in Thiruvananthapuram this year. The highlight of the celebrations will be a major Operational Demonstration (Op Demo) at Shanghumugham Beach on December 4, showcasing the Indian Navy’s combat capabilities, technology, and indigenous assets. Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of the Naval Staff, will host the event, which will include a display of naval aircraft, ships, special forces, and other naval assets.
This will be the third consecutive year that the Navy Day Operational Demonstration is being held outside a major naval base, following events in Puri (Odisha) and Sindhudurg (Maharashtra) in the previous years.
At a press conference held at the naval base in Kochi, Commodore VZ Job, Commanding Officer of INS Venduruthy, outlined the range of activities planned for Navy Day 2025. The theme for this year’s Navy Day is “Indian Navy: Combat Ready, Cohesive, Atmanirbhar – Safeguarding Seas for a Vikshit Samriddha Bharat,” emphasizing the Navy’s preparedness, cohesion, and self-reliance.
“Navy Day, observed on 4th December each year, commemorates the Indian Navy’s crucial role in the 1971 Indo-Pak War, particularly the daring attack on Karachi harbour under Operation Trident. It is a day to honor the courage and strategic brilliance of our naval personnel,” said Cmde Job.

In the lead-up to Navy Day, the SNC will engage with the local community through various outreach initiatives across Kerala. These include hosting special children and senior citizens at the naval base in Kochi on November 8, as well as school visits to INS Garuda and naval ships on November 10 and 11. These visits will feature exhibitions of naval equipment, models, and advanced weapon systems.
Additionally, naval teams from the Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala, will conduct workshops and interactive sessions at schools and colleges in Thiruvananthapuram to promote maritime awareness among students. A veterans' get-together will also be held in Kochi to honour the contributions of former naval personnel.
The Southern Naval Command Band will perform a public concert in Thiruvananthapuram on November 26, blending martial and popular music to celebrate India’s naval heritage. Another special musical concert will be held at Sagarika Auditorium in Kochi on December 10 for an invited audience.
A fitness initiative, the Kochi Navy Marathon 2025, will take place on December 21, promoting physical fitness and fostering a sense of camaraderie between the Navy and the people of Kerala. Preparations for these events are being coordinated closely with the state government and local authorities.
