India’s Industrial Production Growth Slows to 6.7% in July

New Delhi: India’s industrial production growth slowed to 6.7 per cent in July. Growth in the manufacturing sector, which has the largest weight in the Index of Industrial Production (IIP), declined from 9.5 per cent to 7.3 per cent. Growth in the mining and quarrying sector also fell. After registering 1.6 per cent growth in June, the sector contracted by 0.9 per cent in July.


Growth in the electricity and cooking gas supply sector declined from 11.3 per cent to 8.7 per cent. Meanwhile, growth in the drinking water supply, sewage treatment and waste management sector increased from 6.1 per cent to 7.4 per cent.


Of the 23 industries included in the index, 19 recorded growth compared with the previous year.


The electrical equipment sector registered the highest growth at 28.3 per cent, while the motor vehicle sector grew by 22.2 per cent.


Pharmaceutical production declined by 5.6 per cent, while chemical production fell by 2.7 per cent.
