INDIA Bloc to Hold ‘Save Democracy’ March Seeking CEC Gyanesh Kumar’s Resignation

New Delhi: The INDIA bloc has decided to organise a ‘Save Democracy’ march demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The decision was taken at a meeting of INDIA bloc leaders held today to protest what they described as alleged attempts by the Central government to manipulate elections through the Election Commission.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said the INDIA bloc would stand united against the undemocratic actions. Opposition MPs will march to the Election Commission on October 6, demanding the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner.

A major rally will be held in Delhi on November 1. Kharge said around five protest programmes would be organised during October and November, with the dates and venues of the other programmes to be announced later.

Rahul Gandhi said strong protests would be organised against those attempting to undermine India's democracy through what he described as vote theft.

The INDIA bloc leaders said they would convey the Opposition's concerns to the President. They also demanded the restoration of the ballot paper system and said protests would be intensified to press the demand.

CPI(M) General Secretary M A Baby was also present.
