INDIA Bloc MPs Begin March to EC Office Over SIR Row, Seek CEC Gyanesh Kumar's Resignation

New Delhi: Opposition MPs have staged a protest demanding the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, accusing him of putting the country's democratic system at risk. Hundreds of MPs and party workers participated in the protest march to the Election Commission headquarters in Delhi.
The protesters demanded that Gyanesh Kumar resign immediately, that details of voters removed from the electoral rolls before and after the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) be made public, and that the electoral rolls prepared before the SIR be used for future elections.
Around 200 MPs from the INDIA bloc are participating in the protest, according to reports. Police stopped the march near Akashvani Bhavan, following which the MPs staged a sit-in on the road. Opposition MPs said they would not withdraw the protest until Gyanesh Kumar resigns and would intensify the agitation.
