Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh government has imposed a complete ban on the use of mobile phones by students in all government and private schools across the state. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced that the ban will come into effect from March 1.

The Chief Minister said the decision was taken to ensure that children focus more on their studies and social interactions. Excessive mobile phone usage during school hours and even during lunch breaks was found to adversely affect students’ overall growth and development.

As per the order, students found carrying mobile phones in violation of the ban will be fined 500 rupees, and their phones will be confiscated. In addition, the parents of such students will be required to attend special counselling sessions at the school.

The Chief Minister added that the move is part of efforts to improve educational standards, and the Education Department will issue specific guidelines to ensure strict implementation and prevent repeated violations.
