ECI Begins Process for Vice Presidential Election Following Resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar

New Delhi: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has initiated the process for electing the next Vice President of India, a day after the Ministry of Home Affairs notified the resignation of incumbent Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar.
According to a press note issued by the ECI on Wednesday, the election will be conducted in accordance with Article 324 of the Constitution, and governed by the Presidential and Vice-Presidential Elections Act, 1952, along with the associated 1974 Rules.
Preparatory work is already underway, the Commission said. This includes the preparation of the Electoral College comprising elected and nominated members of both the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha, finalisation of the Returning Officer and Assistant Returning Officers, and compilation of background material on previous Vice-Presidential elections.
The schedule for the election will be announced shortly after these preparatory activities are completed.
