Chennai: DMK has strongly criticised the Congress for its reported decision to support the TVK in forming the government in Tamil Nadu.

Reacting sharply, DMK spokesperson Saravanan Annadurai accused Congress of “betrayal” and said the move amounted to a breach of trust within the opposition camp. He alleged that Congress had “stabbed from behind” by backing TVK instead of standing with its existing allies.

Saravanan further mocked Congress, stating that the party managed to win even five seats only because it contested as part of the DMK-led alliance. He also questioned Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, asking whether he intended to support actor-turned-politician Vijay, who has not spoken out against the BJP.

“Is Rahul Gandhi planning to support someone who has not uttered a word against the BJP? TVK is effectively aligned with the BJP. Vijay’s first expression of gratitude was towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” Saravanan alleged.

He warned that this development could erode Congress’s credibility among other leaders of INDIA bloc like Akhilesh Yadav and Uddhav Thackeray.

TVK, which has emerged as the single largest party with 108 seats in the 234-member assembly, requires additional support to cross the majority mark of 118. With Congress backing, reports suggest that Vijay could be sworn in as Chief Minister on May 7, though the final alignment of other parties remains uncertain.
