New Delhi: Flight operations at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi were severely affected on Sunday due to poor visibility caused by dense fog. As many as 97 flights were cancelled, while over 200 flights were delayed, officials said.

Of the cancelled flights, 49 were scheduled to depart from Delhi, while 48 incoming flights were also called off. According to flight-tracking website FlightRadar24, more than 200 flights experienced delays.

Most of the delayed flights were held up by around 30 minutes. The Delhi airport spokesperson said on X that the situation is now under control and flight services have returned to normal.

Approximately 1,300 flight movements take place daily through the Delhi airport. Over the past few days, flight services in Delhi and other parts of north India have been repeatedly disrupted due to dense fog. On Saturday alone, 66 flights were cancelled at the Delhi airport.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert in Delhi as dense fog conditions persist across the city.
