Death toll from Red Fort blast rises to 12

New Delhi: The death toll in the Red Fort blast last night in Delhi rose to 12 after three more succumbed to their injuries this morning. The explosion took place near Gate Number 1, in the station’s parking lot, setting off a massive fire that engulfed eight vehicles, two of which were severely destroyed.


Meanwhile, the Delhi police arrested two suspects who are suspected to be have previously owned the Hyundai i20 car involved in the blast. As per reports by national media, the attack is suspected to be linked to Jaish-e-muhammed militants.


Dr Umar Muhammed, who was under investigation related to the explosives found during a raid a day prior to the blast in Delhi is beleived to be one of the attackers behind last night's blast. As per reports, police and the investigative teams are under the impression that Dr Muhammed died in the blast. The remnants of bodies found at the explosion site have been sent to DNA testing.

The families of the suspects have been detained for further investigation and their DNA was collected to match with the bodies found at the blast site, reports say.
