New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert in Delhi as conditions deteriorated due to dense fog. Schools have been closed in several areas. Air passengers have been advised to check the situation or contact authorities before heading to the airport.

Meanwhile, air pollution levels have intensified in areas such as Anand Vihar, Bawana, Jahangirpuri, Rohini, and Vivek Vihar. The average Air Quality Index (AQI) has risen to 401, indicating severe pollution. Rail and road transport services have also been affected by the fog.

The warnings come as North India moves into a spell of extreme cold. Along with Delhi, red alerts have been issued for Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, while Haryana and Punjab are under an orange alert.
