Chennai: CPI General Secretary D Raja expressed confidence on Thursday that the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA) would win decisively in Tamil Nadu and form the government, speaking to reporters after casting his vote in Chennai, where he is a registered voter.
Raja called on all voters to exercise their franchise, stressing that voting is fundamental to strengthening democracy. He also drew a direct parallel between the electoral battles in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal, saying both states are fighting for secularism and that Bengal too must resist communal forces just as Tamil Nadu is attempting to do.
"Defeating communal ideology is my firm position and that of the Left as a whole. Bengal should not give communal forces an opportunity to gain ground. Just as Tamil Nadu is striving to defeat their ideology, the people of Bengal must also stand up for secularism," he said.
He noted that the West Bengal election is being held in two phases and that results will have to be awaited accordingly, but reiterated that the Left's commitment to defeating divisive politics remains unwavering.
