CPI(M) Opposes PM Modi’s Israel Visit, Calls It a Betrayal of Palestinians

New Delhi: The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has strongly criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s planned visit to Israel, describing it as a betrayal of the Palestinian cause and a legitimisation of the government of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
In a statement issued today, the CPI(M) highlighted that the visit comes at a time when Israel continues to carry out attacks in Gaza, despite declared ceasefires. The party accused Israel of killing scores of Palestinians in ongoing strikes and escalating violence in the occupied West Bank, alongside a surge in illegal settlements.
The statement said the declared intent of the visit is to deepen strategic, military, and economic ties with a Zionist expansionist regime which seeks to dominate the region with the help of the United States. The visit is all the more inopportune because the United States is preparing for a possible military attack on Iran at Israel’s instigation.
The CPI(M) further accused the Bharatiya Janata Party government of exposing its shameless commitment to the US-Israeli axis in West Asia.
The statement comes amid rising tensions in the Middle East, with international attention focused on ongoing conflicts in Gaza and the West Bank.
