Bilaspur: Six people were killed and several others injured when a passenger train collided with a stationary goods train in Chhattisgarh’s Bilaspur district on Tuesday. The crash took place on the Bilaspur–Katni railway section, near the Lal Khadan area, when the Korba passenger train rammed into the freight train from behind.

The impact was severe, causing some coaches of the passenger train to climb over each other. Several coaches were derailed, and the collision caused panic among passengers and nearby residents. The force of the crash also damaged the overhead electric wires and signalling systems, leading to major disruption of train operations on the route.

According to initial reports, a preliminary investigation has indicated that the accident may have occurred after the MEMU local train overshot a signal and hit the rear of the goods train that was parked on the track.

Rescue operations were launched immediately, with railway and district authorities reaching the site to assist the injured and restore the line for train movement.
