CBSE Chairman, Secretary Transferred Amid OSM Controversy; Probe Ordered

New Delhi: The Central Government has transferred the Chairman and Secretary of the CBSE following controversies surrounding the board’s digital evaluation system. The government has also ordered an investigation into the matter and constituted a special committee to examine the implementation and effectiveness of the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system.

The inquiry committee will investigate how the contract for implementing the digital evaluation system was awarded and whether all prescribed procedures were followed during the process. The move comes after widespread concerns emerged following the declaration of Class 10 and Class 12 examination results.

The controversy began when students reported difficulties in accessing scanned copies of their answer sheets. Several students complained that some answer scripts appeared blurred, while others contained missing pages. Concerns were also raised regarding technical difficulties in using the board’s online portal.

In addition to the issues with answer-sheet access, questions were raised about the tendering process for the digital evaluation contract, vendor selection procedures, cybersecurity safeguards, and delays in the re-evaluation process.

Earlier, CBSE had extended deadlines and announced a special grievance-redressal mechanism to address complaints raised by students. However, concerns among students, parents, and teachers across the country persisted for several weeks.
