New Delhi: CPI M General Secretary M A Baby has said that the central government’s lukewarm response to the crisis in the country’s aviation sector is unacceptable. He pointed out that recent events clearly show criminal action against Indigo Airlines, airlines colluding with the DGCA to prevent the implementation of updated safety norms, and attempts to profit from the crisis. Immediate intervention is required to resolve the issue, M A Baby stated.

The central government must take action on its own initiative. All affected passengers should be promptly given full refunds. Adequate compensation must be provided for the hardships faced by passengers. He also noted that the crisis has arisen through factors such as the privatization of Air India, the central government’s double standards in the private sector, and favouring corporate entities known to have made large contributions to the BJP.

The safety of passengers and workers is being compromised, paving the way for widespread profiteering. Regulatory agencies are also turning a blind eye to this situation. This cannot be allowed. M A Baby demanded in his statement that a Joint Parliamentary Committee or a Judicial Commission be formed to investigate the matter comprehensively.
