Assam Floods: Death Toll Crosses 100 as Over 1.37 Lakh People Affected

Guwahati: The flood situation in Assam continues to remain critical, with the death toll crossing 100 after two more people drowned in the past 24 hours. The latest fatalities were reported from Golaghat and Karbi Anglong districts.

More than 1.37 lakh people across seven districts have been directly affected by the floods. Charaideo, Darrang, Golaghat, Jorhat, Karbi Anglong, Nagaon and Sivasagar are among the worst-hit areas.

Golaghat has reported the highest number of affected people, with nearly 70,000 residents impacted by the flooding. More than 40,000 people have been affected in Sivasagar, while Jorhat has reported over 16,000 flood-affected residents.

Authorities have opened 125 relief camps across six districts to provide shelter and assistance. Around 49,061 people have moved into these camps as the floodwaters continue to disrupt normal life.

The floods have submerged 456 villages and damaged more than 11,933 hectares of agricultural land. Roads and bridges have also suffered extensive damage, affecting connectivity in several areas.

The Dhansiri and Kushiyara rivers are flowing above their danger levels at several locations, raising concerns over further flooding.

The disaster has also affected livestock, with more than 43,000 animals reported to be impacted by the floods. Rescue and relief operations are continuing across the affected districts as authorities monitor water levels and provide assistance to displaced residents.
