AIKS Calls for Stronger Nationwide Farmers’ Mobilisation, Backs Wider Unity on Agrarian Issues

Mumbai: The Central Kisan Committee (CKC) of the All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS), meeting in Mumbai over two days, has called for an expansion of farmers’ protests across the country, arguing that worsening conditions in agriculture require coordinated national action.

In a press statement issued after the meeting on June 29, AIKS said discussions focused on a range of issues affecting farmers, including declining returns from agricultural produce, increasing production expenses, crop insurance concerns, land acquisition, shortages of fertilisers and what it described as inadequate loan waiver measures.

The organisation also raised concerns over policies affecting procurement and food security, including what it termed attempts to weaken the role of the Food Corporation of India (FCI). Discussions also covered sugarcane pricing and the possible impact of proposed and ongoing free trade agreements involving India and countries or blocs including the United States, the European Union and New Zealand.

The meeting resolved to intensify campaigns and protest actions around these issues and stressed the importance of bringing together different farmers’ organisations under a broader platform.

AIKS announced that it would participate in the national convention being organised by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) in New Delhi on July 28, where future strategies and forms of mobilisation are expected to be discussed.

The committee also backed efforts to deepen coordination between farmers and workers’ movements and extended support to the joint National Struggle Convention planned by SKM and central trade unions on July 29 against what organisers describe as anti-people government policies.

AIKS further decided to join the nationwide Jail Bharo mobilisation scheduled for August 10, 2026, involving farmers, agricultural labourers and workers across the country.

Marking 90 years of the organisation, AIKS announced commemorative programmes nationwide and said its next National Conference will be held in Nalgonda, Telangana, from November 18 to 21, 2026.
