New Delhi: After the Pahalgam terror attack, the CRPF has set up 43 temporary operational posts to intensify the search for terrorists in the high mountains of Jammu and Kashmir, security forces said. These posts have been established in areas 6,000 feet above sea level. There are 26 bases in the Kashmir region and 17 bases in the Jammu region.

The main aim is to locate foreign terrorists hiding in “dhoks” (huts) made of mud and wood. Officials said that a team of 16 to 25 soldiers, along with local police, will be deployed at each center. To face extreme weather conditions, the forces have been equipped with tactical boots, winter jackets, sleeping bags, and satellite phones.

Following the terrorist attack on April 22, 2025, in the Baisaran Valley of Pahalgam, in which 26 tourists were killed, it was decided to strengthen security. Operation Mahadev, launched as part of this initiative, killed three terrorists in July. The operations are currently being coordinated, focusing on the Pahalgam-Tral-Harwan area.

According to official records, around 100 foreign terrorists are active in Jammu and Kashmir. However, security authorities have stated that local terrorists have been reduced to just two.
