Amaravathi: The death toll from consuming adulterated milk in Andhra Pradesh’s Krishna district has risen to six. A 6-year-old child and a 58-year-old person are among the deceased. The condition of seven people remains critical.

Four people had died on Sunday and Monday after consuming milk distributed by an illegal vendor. The incident occurred in Rajamahendravaram.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has announced compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the families of the deceased.

In connection with the case, the milk distributor, Venkidesha Rao, has been arrested. A case has been registered against him under sections related to attempt to murder and milk adulteration.

It is suspected that deadly chemicals, including urea, were used to increase the quantity of milk and prevent spoilage. The collected samples have been sent to a laboratory for further investigation.
