New Delhi: CPI(M) Rajya Sabha MP A. A. Rahim has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking urgent action against a series of attacks and incidents targeting Christians across the country during the Christmas season, and calling for an end to the official silence over such acts.

In his letter, Rahim referred to the attack on Baby Jacob, a Malayali priest who has been serving in RS Pura in Jammu for the past 13 years, and his family on the eve of Christmas. He alleged that BJP workers were behind the incident. Rahim also drew attention to another case in Maharashtra, where Father Sudheer and his wife Jasmine were arrested by police in Nagpur, which houses the headquarters of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), on charges of forced religious conversion.

Stating that these were not isolated cases, Rahim said such incidents reflected a growing pattern of violence and intimidation directed at the Christian community in different parts of the country.

The MP demanded that those responsible for the attack on Pastor Baby Jacob and his family be brought to justice without being given any form of protection. He also sought the immediate release of Father Sudheer and his wife, who were taken into custody in Nagpur.

Rahim urged the Prime Minister to issue clear directions to state governments to prevent the recurrence of such incidents and to ensure that the constitutional right to freedom of religion is upheld and protected for all citizens.
