Kalladi Landslide: Two More Bodies Recovered, Death Toll Climbs to Five

Wayanad: Two more bodies were recovered during the search operation that resumed on Thursday morning in connection with the Kalladi landslide. One of the latest victim was found during a search operation carried out in an area adjoining the Meenakshi River, meanwhile, one of the bodies was found in the river.

With the latest recoveries, the death toll in the disaster has risen to five. Search operations for the three people who remain missing are continuing despite adverse weather conditions.

Authorities said three people remain unaccounted for, with search operations continuing across four designated zones. Cadaver dogs have also been deployed to assist rescue personnel in locating victims buried under the debris.

The landslide struck within a 200-metre stretch surrounding the tunnel construction site, leaving a massive accumulation of mud and debris. Nearly 10 feet of slush has piled up near the Meenakshi Bridge, making rescue efforts challenging.

Search teams are focusing on both banks of the river beneath the bridge, the upper portion of the bridge and the landslide-hit area. Spot-location cameras are also being used to detect any signs of people trapped beneath the debris as the multi-agency rescue operation continues.
