One More Arrest in Walayar Mob Lynching Case; Eight Accused Held So Far

Walayar: One more person has been arrested in connection with the mob lynching at Attappallam in Walayar, in which Ramnarayan Bhaiyal, a native of Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, was killed. The Special Investigation Team arrested Rajesh (39) of East Attappallam Amma Nilayam in this case. Rajesh is an INTUC head-load worker attached to the Walayar Nilampathy unit. He has five criminal cases registered against him at the Walayar Police Station.


Rajesh is also an accused in a case involving impersonation of a commercial tax officer and cheating traders of money. He was part of the group that assaulted migrant worker Ram Narayan Bhaiyal. With this arrest, the Special Investigation Team has so far taken eight people into custody. Crime Branch DySP M Gopakumar had earlier stated that more arrests are likely in the case.


The mob assault that led to the death of Ram Narayan Bhaiyal occurred on the 17th of last month. Of the eight people arrested so far, five are BJP–RSS workers. The accused has been produced before the court and remanded in judicial custody.
