Thiruvananthapuram: The state government is set to unveil a large-scale logistics master plan at the Vizhinjam International Seaport to boost the state’s maritime and industrial sectors. Indian Oil Corporation, Container Corporation of India (CONCOR), and Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC) will sign Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with the Vizhinjam International Seaport on Monday in the presence of the Chief Minister. The goal is to transform Vizhinjam into a full-fledged economic development center. Infrastructure development projects worth Rs 2,000 crore are being launched.

The ceremony will be held at 10:15 a.m. today in the Chief Minister’s chamber at the Assembly building. It will be attended by Port Minister V. N. Vasavan, Port Secretary Dr. A. Kausigan, and VISL MDO Divya S. Iyer. The government is ensuring that essential facilities such as fuel for ships, cargo yards, and rail transport for goods movement are provided through public-sector entities. This development model aims to prevent monopolization in cargo handling, ensure fair rates for traders, strengthen the country’s maritime security, and safeguard the interests of the state.

Projects Worth Rs 2,000 Crore

Indian Oil Corporation will invest Rs 700 crore to enhance fuel security. A large-scale bunkering facility will be constructed to refuel massive ships. With this development, Vizhinjam is set to become one of the most important fuel hubs in the Indian Ocean.

Container Corporation of India (CONCOR) will invest Rs 600 crore in the transport network. Under the Ministry of Railways, CONCOR will develop container depots and cargo-handling systems to ensure the safe and efficient movement of goods across the country by rail.

Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC) will invest Rs 700 crore in a logistics park. A state-of-the-art multi-modal logistics park, along with large warehouses, will be constructed. Built without any financial liability to the government, the park will also feature extensive cold storage facilities and export-related units.
