Kayamkulam: U Prathibha, LDF candidate for the Kayamkulam Assembly constituency, has announced that she will initiate legal action against the UDF leader who made “insulting and misogynistic” remarks directed at her during an election event.

Prathibha was responding to comments made by Muslim League leader Irshad Chakkalassery, who stated that she was contesting the election based on her “oratory skills and physical appearance.” She strongly condemned the remark, saying it amounted to an insult not just to her, but to the entire community of women.

Calling the statement “deeply hurtful and shocking,” Prathibha accused the UDF of attempting character assassination. “No woman should be spoken about in such a manner. This reflects a mindset that reduces women to their physical appearance,” she said while addressing the media.

She further asserted that voters evaluate candidates based on their integrity and work, not their appearance. “People judge candidates for their minds, not by looking at someone’s body. I am contesting the election based on the development work carried out in the constituency,” she added.

Prathibha also confirmed that she would file a complaint with the Election Commission regarding the incident.

The controversial remarks were made by Irshad Chakkalassery, who is also the UDF constituency convenor, during an election convention held in Kayamkulam.
