Attack on Veena George an Insult to Democratic Kerala: TP Ramakrishnan

Thiruvananthapuram: LDF Convener TP Ramakrishnan has strongly criticized the Congress for physically attacking Health Minister Veena George under the guise of protest, calling it “an insult to democratic Kerala.” He said the opposition has resorted to such tactics after failing with surveys and political maneuvers, describing the KSU attack on the minister as a symptom of this frustration.
Ramakrishnan recalled the “dark times” under the UDF, when ordinary patients were denied treatment in government hospitals, buildings were unsafe, and medicines were scarce. He said that the last ten years of LDF governance transformed Kerala’s health sector, earning global recognition. The minister’s work has been widely appreciated by ordinary people, which, according to Ramakrishnan, is why the opposition resorted to personal attacks against her.
He condemned the Congress’s actions, including barging into the minister’s official residence and laying a wreath, saying such acts cannot be considered legitimate protests. Ramakrishnan argued that the violence reflects the opposition’s realization that it is unlikely to win the upcoming Assembly elections.
He demanded that Congress correct its approach of spreading unverified claims and attacking in the name of protest, urging the party to conduct political activities in a dignified and democratic manner.
