Malayalis Worldwide to Celebrate Thiruvonam on Wednesday

Thiruvananthapuram: Malayalis across the world will celebrate Thiruvonam on Wednesday, the eleventh day after Atham — this year falling a day after the traditional Uthradam rush. People were busy on Tuesday picking up last-minute purchases, though widespread rain across the state caused considerable hardship. Heavy rain lashed several parts of northern Keralam through the day.

Soaring prices have cast a shadow over the festivities. Vegetables and other essentials remained expensive even on Uthradam day, with the government's market intervention failing to bring prices under meaningful control.

Thiruvonam will be marked across the state with celebrations organised by various organisations, clubs and residents' associations.
