Police Action in Capital Draws Outrage; SFI Students Brutally Assaulted

Thiruvananthapuram: Police entered the University hostel in Thiruvananthapuram and assaulted students. Police entered the hostel compound in the name of resolving a dispute arising from clashes during a Youth Congress march and resorted to a lathi charge against SFI students without provocation.

Three students suffered serious head injuries in the assault.

Widespread violence took place during the march led by Shafi Parambil MP. When the march reached near the University College hostel, protesters allegedly threw flaming torches inside the hostel. This was followed by a clash between the two groups.
