Thiruvananthapuram: A four-storey state-of-the-art building is being constructed at Thiruvananthapuram General Hospital with an investment of ₹137 crore, funded through the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB). The foundation stone and construction inauguration will be performed by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on March 9 at 5 pm. The event will be presided over by Health Minister Veena George, with KN Balagopal, V Sivankutty, and GR Anil attending as special guests.

Health Minister Veena George said the new building will transform the hospital’s infrastructure and help address space constraints. The ground floor will accommodate the reception area, trauma care department, general OP, ARV clinic, and pharmacy. The second floor will house intensive care wards of various departments, a seminar room, the e-health and Bhumika clinic. The third floor will include spacious laboratory facilities, a blood bank, and specialty and super-specialty OPs, while the fourth floor will feature a chemotherapy ward, operation theatre, and dental OP. In addition, a service block with an AC plant, medical gas unit, and laundry will be set up, and ten lifts will be installed to provide convenience for patients and the public. Once completed, the building is expected to significantly enhance the hospital’s capacity and provide modern healthcare facilities for the people of Thiruvananthapuram.
