Support for Women Entrepreneurs: 4 Percent Interest Subsidy on Tourism Sector Loans

Thiruvananthapuram: To promote more women entrepreneurs in the state’s tourism sector, the government has taken a historic step. Women are being offered an interest subsidy of 4 percent to start their own ventures. The scheme is being implemented by the Responsible Tourism Mission Society (KRTM) in collaboration with the State Women’s Development Corporation. This is the first such scheme in the country specifically for women entrepreneurs in the tourism sector.


Benefit up to Rs 15 lakh


Those registered with the Responsible Tourism Mission, as well as new registrants, are eligible for the loan. The 4 percent interest subsidy is applicable for any loan amount up to a maximum of Rs 15 lakh. Women from all categories, Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes, minorities, and the general category are eligible for this benefit.

“This scheme will be a major incentive to attract more women into the fast-growing tourism sector,” said Tourism Minister P. A. Mohammed Riyas. He added that Kerala is setting an example for the country in promoting women-led ventures. KRTMS CEO K. Rupesh Kumar stated that the aim is to connect existing entrepreneurs and identify new ones.


Scheme Details


Scheme Name: Interest Subvention Project 2025-26


Budget Allocation: The government has sanctioned Rs 4 crore for the project. 50 percent of the budget allocated to the Responsible Tourism Mission has been earmarked for women’s empowerment.


Application Procedure: Interested women must apply to the Responsible Tourism Mission Society with a detailed project report. Applications recommended by the Mission will be considered under the Women’s Development Corporation’s guidelines.

Currently, 70 percent of the units operating under KRTMS are owned by women. The government aims to promote and expand these ventures through this loan scheme.
