Kerala Monsoon Nearing, Heavy Rain Alert Issued Across Several Districts; Orange Alert in Thiruvananthapuram

Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department has indicated that the southwest monsoon is advancing rapidly toward the Kerala coast. Weather conditions are becoming increasingly favorable for the monsoon to reach Kerala and parts of Tamil Nadu within the next 4–5 days. As a result, widespread rainfall is expected across the state in the coming days.

An Orange Alert has been issued for Thiruvananthapuram for the next three hours due to the possibility of isolated heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds reaching speeds of up to 40 km/h.

Fishermen Warned Against Venturing Into the Sea

The weather department has advised the public to remain vigilant. Due to rough sea conditions, fishing has been prohibited along the Kerala–Lakshadweep coast from May 30 to June 3. However, fishing activities along the Karnataka coast are currently not restricted.

Strong winds of 35–45 km/h, occasionally gusting up to 55 km/h, are expected over the Kerala and Lakshadweep coastal regions.

Multiple Weather Systems Active

According to the IMD, three cyclonic circulations are currently active:

Over the central-east and southeast Bay of Bengal.

Over the southeast Arabian Sea and adjoining regions.

Over the southwest Arabian Sea and nearby areas.

In addition, a trough extends from the cyclonic circulation over the central-east Bay of Bengal through the central-west and southwest Bay of Bengal, across the Kanyakumari region, and up to Lakshadweep, extending up to about 5.8 km above sea level. These systems are expected to enhance rainfall activity over Kerala.

Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad.

June 2:

Ernakulam, Idukki, Kozhikode, Kannur, Kasaragod.

June 3:

Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur.

Residents in low-lying areas, hilly regions, and coastal zones are advised to closely follow official weather updates and take necessary precautions during periods of intense rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds.
