Thiruvananthapuram: Education Minister V Sivankutty visited the family of Dikshal, the eight-year-old boy who died of a snakebite in Chirayinkeezhu, to offer his condolences and express solidarity with the bereaved parents.

In a Facebook post after the visit, the Minister wrote: "The pain of the family that has lost their son is beyond words. I share their grief. The thought that Dikshal will no longer go to school or play is deeply heartbreaking. I give my assurance that the necessary steps will be taken to strengthen safety measures in schools and elsewhere. May such tragic incidents never happen again."

Dikshal, son of Dileep and Anu, died on the 23rd after being bitten by a snake while sleeping on the floor with his grandmother Leela. The family lives in a house built with aluminium sheets that offers little protection from the outside, a circumstance that has drawn attention to the vulnerability of families living in inadequate housing to such dangers.
