Kochi: MLA Shafi Parambil has reiterated that the Congress has already taken action against Rahul Mamkoottathil, who is an accused in a sexual assault case, and that nothing more can be done on the matter. He said that Rahul was suspended from the Congress immediately after the allegations surfaced, and that even those personally close to Rahul did not oppose the disciplinary action. “Let the legal process continue from here. As KPCC Working President, I don’t think there is any need for me to respond further,” Shafi said while speaking at a private event in Kochi.

Shafi Parambil had earlier taken a stance defending Rahul Mamkoottathil, who is accused in a serious sexual assault case. He often avoided giving clear answers about Rahul, who is a close associate. Shafi has repeatedly stated that the party has taken action and that he has nothing more to say.

When pointed out that senior Congress leaders have differing opinions on the matter, Shafi argued that those were merely personal views. He also claimed that even though he and others close to Rahul were in the party, the Congress decision was unanimous. Responding to questions about Rahul participating in the election campaign in Palakkad, Shafi justified that it was entirely a local matter and had taken place before any complaint was filed. He added that Rahul went because local workers requested his presence, and at that time, no sexual assault complaint had been lodged.
