Protests Against Sandeep Warrier in Thavanur After UDF Candidature

Posters against Sandeep Warrier in Thavanur
Malappuram: Public protests have emerged against Sandeep Warrier, who has been announced as the UDF candidate for the Assembly elections in Thavanur. Protest posters were pasted over a flex board put up to welcome him.
The poster carried the message: “This land does not need communalist Warrier, who once said that Mahatma Gandhi was ‘just shot dead lightly.’”
Earlier, the flex board welcoming Sandeep Warrier had been installed in the name of the Porurkara Mandalam Congress Committee. The protest poster which was put up later further alleged that Sandeep Warrier had made inflammatory remarks against the Muslim community and the Indian Union Muslim League, and stated that he is not welcome in Thavanur.
The welcome board was put up even before the official announcement of the candidate. Sandeep Warrier had earlier joined the Congress after publicly protesting against being denied a seat in the Lok Sabha elections while he was a member of BJP. During his time in the BJP, he had made controversial remarks against the Muslim League.
