Thiruvananthapuram: BJP workers allegedly sang an RSS Ganageetham (prayer song) inside the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation Council Hall immediately after the oath-taking ceremony of the newly elected members to the Corporation, triggering strong protests from the CPI(M).

The incident took place soon after the swearing-in ceremony, in the presence of BJP councillors and leaders. CPI(M) councillor SP Deepak strongly condemned the act, accusing the BJP of attempting to introduce communalism into the functioning of the civic body.

Deepak alleged that what happened inside the council hall was completely objectionable and amounted to an effort to communalise the corporation from day one. He pointed out that the BJP workers sang the song and engaged in celebratory behaviour while the Returning Officer and district collectors were still present.

“The BJP is making attempts to inject communalism right from the very first day. Singing such songs inside the council hall is unacceptable. There has been a clear effort to communalise the corporation from the outset,” Deepak said, adding that the CPI(M) would register strong protests against the incident.
